3 Ways to Feel Calmer During a Root Canal

Despite root canals being safe, routine dental procedures, root canal treatment can feel stressful for many people.

The most common reason our patients report being scared of having a root canal is because they’re afraid the root canal will hurt. In reality, most patients who need root canals are already in excruciating pain due to a dental infection within the tooth.

Root canals actually help eliminate pain rather than causing it. Still, these “root canal jitters” are widespread.

If you need a root canal in Rockville, MD but are worried about the treatment, there are a few things you can do in the dental chair to help yourself relax:

#1 Bring Headphones

The sounds associated with dental procedures can be the worst part of treatment for many patients.

If it’s hard for you to stay calm amidst sounds of scraping and drilling, you’re not alone.

We encourage our patients to bring their phone or another device and a pair of headphones so they can listen to their favorite music or podcast during their root canal and tune out from all the dental noises.

#2 Wear Sunglasses

If you’re worried about seeing the dental instruments we use for your root canal treatment, you can always wear a pair of sunglasses or an eye mask. Removing the temptation to peek during your treatment can help you feel more at ease.

#3 Use a Pillow or Blanket

At Gladnick Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we want you to be as comfortable as possible during your Rockville, MD root canal.

In addition to sunglasses and headphones, you’re also welcome to bring a pillow or blanket to use in the dental chair. These creature comforts can help you relax or feel more at home while you’re receiving treatment.

Schedule Your Root Canal Treatment Today

Root canals are essential dental treatments that can save damaged teeth. If your Rockville dentist told you that a tooth needs root canal treatment, don’t wait!
